Mangino Seals His Fate....

Most teams want to go to a bowl game. Apparently, KU coach Mark Mangino didn't. Pinned deep in its own territory with 2:54 remaining, the Jayhawks' play-calling sequence was one of the worst PYB has ever witnessed. Worse, even, than some of Frank Solich's finest. Worse than Dave Wannstedt's playcalling against Navy a couple years back.

Mizzou, sporting the greatest uniforms ever seen in college football, had one timeout remaining. From its own one, you'd think KU would run the ball to work the clock. Instead, we get:

First down: deep pass down the sideline, incomplete
Second down: Incomplete flat pass as WR slips
Third down: QB sacked for safety to make it 39-38 KU

MIZZOU didn't even have to use its lone timeout!! Mangino was gracious enough to let the Tigers save it for setting up the game-winning field goal, which they converted as time expired for a 41-39 victory. Amazingly bad. Should he get fired? NO. Will he? YES. You're not allowed to poke guys in the chest who are only protected with shoulder pads. This is 2009, after all.
