Does it count as a World Series championship if nobody gives a shit? Great, title 27 for the New York Yankees. However, this one is bought and paid for. PYB doesn't care and contends the public doesn't care. As previously noted, the Yankees bragging about winning the 2009 series is like a guy bragging to his friends that he nailed a hot chick after shelling out $1000 for a whore.
To make it an even bigger farce, two shams go Karl Malone on us and get rings they would have never gotten without joining the Empire: Cream Cheese Sabathia and A-Fraud. The Phillies were game opponents, and were the model of what a good baseball team should be: played hard, played together, played good baseball. Too bad MLB wouldn't dare allow them to crush TV ratings for two consecutive "Fall Classics." The Phils would have beaten any other team in the league, but could not overcome this concocted collection of All-Stars. Mo' money, mo' rings....
Anyway, you know baseball has lost its designation as 'The National Pastime' when, to a man, every sports fan you talk to is pissed that there is no late NFL game on Sunday night because of the World Series.
