Volleyball & The Apocalypse...

Another terrible idea for many reasons:
1. What happens when the VB team has an off season or two, we've seen how NU fans jump ship like rats when the going gets tough (basketball and baseball in the midst of its meltdown...and even football to a degree as the fans who 'loved' the Cornhuskers from 1993-2001 have gone back to under the rock from which they came)?
2. Giving up a packed venue that is nearly impossible for opponents to play in is a terrible idea in any sport. No matter how strong most crowds would be at Devaney, there would be sparse nights (weekdays) where the environment was nonexistent.
3. Demand is strong and remains strong because there is a good product, and those who currently don't go because they can't get tickets (translation: too cheap to pay the $30 it would take to find one) help keep the product in demand. If there were 9000 tickets available for each game, the "I'll go to the next game" mentality would slowly but surely creep in and water down attendance.
4. Moving the crowd farther from players dressed in skin-tight shorts isn't really a selling point, in my opinion. I'm sure there are many men, and women, that attend the games that are interested in being up close & personal.

I got two words for you "F-ING QUEST CENTER"! OK, technically that's three. But you put anything in that Modern Wonder of The World, and they will come...and then talk about it for three months before and after each event/game...
ReplyDelete& why is it necessary to HAVE to say "Quest Center" when referring to some NCAA broads event or over-the-hill musician that performs there? Isn't the Ranch Bowl closed??? Where else would it be???
I think Earth Wind & Fire is playing there next week, followed by the NCAA Archery Regionals....
