Microcosm.....Cubs Style
Watching the Cubs last night provided the most excellent proof of what a microcosm is. They sucked on the field and battled injuries all the way through early June, then began fighting back and took the division lead in mid-July. As soon as that happened, the injury bug bit again and their play took an abrupt turn into the shitter once again. Well last nite, they trailed San Diego 3-1, somehow fighting back to tie it 3-3 on a series of weak hits. The rally was capped by their biggest struggler, Alfonso Soriano, who knuckled a weak bloop into left field for the tying hit. Starting the next inning, Ryan Dempster gave up a game-tanking home run to Adrian Gonzalez on the very first pitch. Season over....Microcosm witnessed. At least I've got Dexter: Season 3 on the way via Netflix and football in two weeks. I can't imagine how Mr. Piniella feels, having to sit through this through early October. For good measure, they tried Angel Guzman in his new role as setup man, and he promptly relinquished two runs in one inning. Go Cubs Go!!
