Strike One in Columbia....
Despite supposedly knowing what was at stake this weekend, Mike Anderson's team laid another egg Friday. They didn't even score a run. Pretty indicative of his run as coach....when the stakes are high...go scoreless. Pretty indicative of the coach's tenure, as things have gone from bad to worse.
Fuck you Mike Anderson. Apparently, anything outside the Ohio Valley conference is out of his league. Wake up, Tom Osborne. Saddling NU fans with this pathetic excuse for a coach before the 2010 disaster was even complete was unnecessary, shortsighted and offensive. PYB especially loves the "Win-Loss record isn't the only barometer" excuse. How about qualifying for a conference tournament in a watered-down Big 12?
PYB had the misfortune of witnessing two of last weekend's wins over Southeast Missouri State. Despite sweeping the series, Anderson's lack of coaching prowess was on full display. In game three, Anderson forced DJ Belfonte to bunt in the second inning, with NU up one run. This after Belfonte had homered into a stiff wind in his previous at bat and with Adam Bailey on deck. Bailey had 16 HRs on the season, and SEMO would have surely walked him had Belfonte sacrificed the runners to second and third. NU had scored 19 runs the day prior, and there was nothing at stake. Why not let your team get some reps swinging the bat...they obviously hadn't been trained how to sacrifice.
Very similar to the blatant gaffes Anderson made in blowing the CWS game against Arizona State several years ago. Dusty Baker would be proud.
